Start with the symptoms, not a guess
A single slow fixture and several fixtures backing up together are different service calls. Note whether the kitchen sink, bathtub, toilet or floor drain is affected, whether the problem returns after clearing, and whether it happens during rain or ordinary water use. A recurring blockage may need further investigation before choosing a cleaning method.
New Westminster neighbourhood enquiries
We welcome drain-cleaning enquiries from Sapperton, Queens Park, Brow of the Hill, West End, Moody Park, Glenbrooke North, Downtown and Queensborough. Send your street or nearest intersection when you contact us; availability and access are confirmed directly. For a strata building, include the unit, affected floors and property manager’s contact arrangements. Neighbourhood alone cannot tell us the pipe material, condition or cause of a blockage.
Queensborough: separate the property issue from street drainage
If outdoor water rises during rain, describe whether it starts at a downspout, yard drain, ditch or street. The City documents drainage challenges in parts of Queensborough. A private drain inspection and a municipal drainage report serve different purposes; clearing an indoor drain does not resolve every outdoor flooding problem. Use the City’s drainage information below for public-system concerns.
What to send before a visit
Include the affected fixtures, when the problem started, whether nearby fixtures are also slow, previous clearing or repairs, and any accessible cleanout location you already know. Photos taken from a dry, safe position can help explain the issue. Tell us if a tenant, caretaker or strata representative needs to arrange access.
When cleaning is only the first step
Ask what was found, what was cleared and how flow was checked. If the problem repeats, a camera inspection may help investigate the accessible line. Cleaning removes a blockage; it does not repair a broken pipe. The next recommendation should follow the findings rather than an assumption based on the age of the neighbourhood.
Common questions
Do you cover neighbouring cities?
See our existing service-area pages for Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and the wider Lower Mainland. Contact WNPD with your address to confirm availability.
Should I keep using the fixtures?
If water is backing up, stop using the affected fixtures and request help. If several drains are affected, avoid adding more wastewater while the problem is assessed.
Tell us where the water is showing up.
Include your neighbourhood, affected fixtures or area, when it started, and whether water is rising now.
